A stealth-mode European biotech is seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to join its executive team. Backed by successful founders with multiple ventures in life sciences, this company is focused on revolutionizing oncology treatment through innovation and strategic development.

You’ll lead the clinical strategy for a portfolio of immuno-oncology programs, working with a highly capable leadership team. The position is remote-first, with monthly travel to Switzerland (up to three times per month).

To support its continued growth, the company is recruiting a board-certified oncologist with deep experience in oncology clinical development and leadership.


Role Overview

As Chief Medical Officer, you will be a critical part of the executive leadership team, responsible for clinical direction, strategic oversight, and regulatory engagement.

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the company’s clinical and medical strategies.

  • Ensure alignment with long-term business objectives and scientific excellence.

Clinical Development Oversight

  • Lead all phases of clinical trials from preclinical through Phase 3.

  • Oversee protocol development, patient recruitment, endpoint selection, and data analysis.

Regulatory Strategy and Compliance

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with global regulatory authorities (EMA, FDA).

  • Guide preparation of regulatory filings and ensure compliance with ICH-GCP and local standards.

Medical Affairs and External Engagement

  • Build relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and external scientific partners.

  • Represent the company at medical and industry events, including conferences, advisory boards, and investor meetings.

Clinical Innovation

  • Incorporate cutting-edge practices in trial design, including biomarkers, personalized medicine, and novel combinations.

  • Stay current on research to keep the oncology pipeline competitive and relevant.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Mentor and lead clinical, regulatory, and medical affairs teams.

  • Foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on scientific integrity and excellence.

Business Development and Partnerships

  • Collaborate with the executive team on strategic partnerships, licensing, and acquisition opportunities.

  • Offer medical insights during negotiations and partnership development.


Candidate Profile

Education

  • MD (or equivalent) with board certification in oncology.

  • PhD or related advanced degree is an advantage.

Experience

  • 12–15+ years in clinical development, including 7+ years in oncology.

  • Successful track record in designing and leading oncology trials (Phase 1–3).

  • Experience working with EMA, FDA, and other major regulatory bodies.

  • Prior leadership in biotech or pharmaceutical settings is essential.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong scientific and clinical knowledge in oncology.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex clinical programs.

  • Excellent communicator with strong presentation skills.

  • Fluency in English; additional European languages are beneficial.
